Message
“Good morning to everyone!
It has been said that, “sports creates a bond between contemporaries that last a lifetime. It also gives your life structure, discipline and a genuine, sincere, pure fulfillment that few other areas of endeavor provide”.
It is in this premise that the school administration strongly supports the sports activities of the College, thus, we are holding this Annual Intramural meet. Also, it has been said that learning is not only acquired within the four walls of the classroom. Therefore, I would like to stress that sport activities, like this, is a reminder that the intramurals are an extension of the classrooms and the lessons are learned when the proper respect is accorded to all, pointing out sportsmanship in particular.
Let us put in mind that sportsmanship is the clearest and most popular expressions of morals. It’s a thing of beauty. When you witness an example of good sportsmanship, it reinforces that an athletes are learning morals, ethics and integrity from their experience. Also, let us remember that sports is not only about winning; it is about playing well, accepting defeat with grace and courage, having discipline, showing respect for one another, and fostering camaraderie and convergence.
May I share with you some examples of things that you can do to demonstrate sportsmanship.
1. Learn as much as you can about your sport. Play by its rules. Show up for practice, work hard, and realize that if you’re on a team, everyone deserves a chance to play.
2. Talk politely and act courteously toward everyone before, during, and after games and events. That includes your teammates, your opponents, your coaches and theirs, the officials presiding over the game, and even spectators (who can sometimes be loud about their opinions).
3. Stay cool. Even if others are losing their tempers, it doesn’t mean you have to. Remind yourself that no matter how hard you’ve practiced and played, it is, after all, just a game.
4. Avoid settling disputes with violence. If you’re in a difficult situation or someone’s threatening you, seek help immediately from your coach or from an official.
5. Cheer your teammates on with positive statements – and avoid trash talking the other team.
6. Acknowledge and applaud good plays, even when someone on the other team makes them.
7. When officials make a call, accept it gracefully even if it goes against you. Remember that referees may not be right every time – but they’re people who are doing their best, just as you are.
8. Whether you win or lose, congratulate your opponents on a game well played.
May this year’s theme: “Healthy Lifestyle Through Sports” reminds us all to stay fit and healthy by involving in sports activities and not in other vices. A famous saying says: ‘Mens sana in corpore sano’ – which simply means that the way to a sound mind is to have a sound body. As you know, sports does you good and it is the key factor to reduce your stress and to “recover energy”. Sports is the cure-all solution for your health. Engaging in sports activities stimulates your blood circulation and your brain activity at its best.
Finally, I would like to commend the Sports Coordinators, P.E. Instructors, Council Chairmen, Officials of the games, Coaches, Athletes, Student Government officers, candidates for the Search for Mr. & Miss Hinampang 2009, faculty and staff and students for the cooperation and support in making this year’s Intramural meet a great success.
To all the participating teams, good luck and God bless.“
