Miagao Commemorates Local Hero’s 161st Anniversary

The Municipality of Miagao, in collaboration with the LGU, the Monteclaro clan, the Officials of Brgy. Igtuba, the different high schools and the 82IB 3ID PA, commemorated the 161st Birth Anniversary of “Tan Pedro Monteclaro” on October 14, at Camp Monteclaro, Brgy. Igtuba, Miagao, Iloilo.

The celebration started with the raising of the Philippine Flag by Mayor Julieta N. Flores together with Maj. Marvin De Los Santos and the Municipal Banner by Hon. Raul F. Facon and P/Insp. Orlando V. Fangena.  Mrs. Bonifacia L. Servidad, teacher I, Kirayan National High School (KNHS), conducted the Philippine national Anthem and the Miagao Hymn accompanied by the 3ID Marching Band.  Mr. Dolmar C. Mones, teacher I, KNHS, led the Opening Prayer.

Mayor Flores, Maj. De Los Santos and Hon. Demetrio P. Sonza spearheaded the offering of the wreath to the local hero’s monument. This was followed by the short offertory procession composed of the 10 descendants of Tan Pedro and six descandants of his Soldados Voluntarios.  Fourteen gun salutes offered by the 82ID 3ID capped military honors.

Hon. Paquito B. Estrellado, punong barangay of Igtuba, introduced the guest of honor and speaker, Hon. Demetrio P. Sonza.  He is a notable Ilonggo historian and the representative of the second district of Iloilo in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan,, Province of Iloilo.  He talked about the life and works of Tan Pedro Monteclaro.

Hon. Jessica P. Torrecampo, Hon. Patricio N. Fio, Hon. Santos N. Niñonuevo and Hon. Serafin F. Monteclaro, government officials of this municipality, were also present.  School heads from the different elementary and secondary schools likewise supported the said commemoration.

In connection with the celebration, the municipality conducted contests in Poem Reading (elementary level) and Impromptu Speech (High School Category and Army Category).

Kirayan National High School (KNHS) hosted this year’s activity with Mr. Marlou G. Gayem, teacher I, as the Master of Ceremony.
